In order to renew certification, all trainers must complete 20 hours of continuing education credits in addition to submitting the renewal fee before December 31 of each year.  Credits must be earned in at least three different categories within the year prior to renewal.  CEU requirement is waived for first renewal if certification is first achieved between September 1 and end of year.  Please note that you do not have to submit CEU's with the Certification Application, they are only required with renewals.

All credits must be earned within dog training, behavior, animal science, ethology or similar subjects.  Please use the tracking spreadsheet and include required information as specified.  You may use our Excel spreadsheet or submit in your own format.   Falsification of any information submitted will result in immediate revocation of certification.

  • Community service or volunteer work, non-compensated and non-court ordered:   1 CEU per 4 hours of service off your property.  IE fostering does not count.   Handling a foster dog at a rescue sanctioned event however does.  
    • A letter from an official representative of the organization, on organization letterhead, confirming scope of work, hours completed and dates of completion.
 
  • Teach an in-person class:  2 CEU’s per session, must be at least a 4 week session.
    • Name of class, number of weeks, dates of class and number of students.
 
  • Complete a client private session:  1 CEU per 2 sessions.
    • List of client first name and initial of last name, date and session reason.
   
  • Teach an online class: 1 CEU per hour of teaching.
    • Copy of class description that includes your name as presenter, website or link to the class or workshop confirming length.
 
  • Attend an in-person class or workshop with a professional trainer: 3 CEU’s per session if geared towards trainers.  2 CEU’s if geared toward pet owner.
    • Copy of registration confirmation and website or link to the class or workshop confirming length.
 
  • Publish an article in a validated written publication or website.  Please contact us for validation.  Social Media or self-owned or published blogs do not apply. 1 CEU per article.
    • A copy of the article in publication or link to published article.
 
  • Reading books and/or magazine articles:  2 CEU’s per 150 pages.
    • Title, author, date of publication and number of total pages.
 
  • Watch videos, dvd’s, etc:  1 CEU per hour.
    • Title, author, date of publication and length.
 
  • Earn a title on your personal dog: 2 CEU’s per title.
    • A copy of the title evaluation form or title certificate.  Date of title must be included.
 
  • Refer a trainer to the certification application:  1 CEU for each trainer that completes and application and submits payment.
    • Applicant must put your name in referral section.  You must list name on CEU tracking.
 
  • Refer a person to the Trainer Academy:  1 CEU for each person that begins the program and submits first or full payment.
    • Applicant must put your name in referral section.  You must list name on CEU tracking.
 
  • Custom CEU’s: please contact us for approval, credit amount and required submission information.  This can include multi day workshops or classes and items with approved CEU’s for other organizations.​​
