Puppy Play 'N Train:
Puppy foundation training is one of the most important things you can do with your pup to make them a well behaved and well-adjusted adult dog. This 4 week class introduces you and your pup to various training methods and commands, how to curb negative behavior such as jumping and mouthing, how to greet and socialize with dogs and people and includes socialization and playtime with the other puppies in each class and sometimes the trainer's adult dog for balance. Interested in your puppy achieving the AKC S.T.A.R. certificate? Ask us how! Class is open to puppies who are 5 months old and younger at the start of class and have had at least their first round of core vaccines (please note most puppies are too young for rabies so that is not required for this class.) This class utilizes the Volhard Motivational Method to teach handlers and dogs basic commands sit, down, stay, come, heel, leave it, look at me and a few more! Become experienced in different handling techniques, how dogs think and learn, hand signals and working through distractions. Do you want a fun way to learn how to refresh and refine responses to commands, have your dog respond to you from a slight distance and with distractions present? We'll take the basic commands and use them at 8 different obedience stations each week. Some stations include sequencing several commands together! Each handler will also learn how to improve your dog's focus and gain your dog's trust to teach them the stations and new behaviors. The class size limited to 7-8 dogs. Does your dog need some help with canine life skills and manners? Do they jump on visitors, bark for attention, counter surf and pull on the leash? Learn how to work through these issues with your dog and teach them additional skills like “going to your spot” (having your dog go to a specific place to wait while people enter and exit, while you are eating meals, etc.), calming techniques and curbing impulse control. Class is open to dogs 4 months and older. Class size limited to 6 dogs. Are you unsure of how to introduce your dog to people and other dogs? Are they too shy or over the top with excitement? This class helps teach you and your dog to become more comfortable with these meet and greets. You will learn about canine and human body language, how to use it to your advantage, how to set up the situation for success and calming techniques to use with your dog. Many exercises will be better with two handlers, so having at least two people per family attend is preferred. Please note, this class is not for dogs who are highly reactive or aggressive with people and/or dogs nor does it include playtime. Class is open to dogs 6 months and older and limited to 6 dogs. A new take on agility type training! Every week participants bring random objects from home and we use them to create an obstacle course for your dog so there is a new course each week. Past objects have included pop up tents, step stools, umbrellas of all sizes and laundry baskets. I will also being the agility tunnel each week. While we don't do formal obedience exercises in this class, you have to use the basic commands and creative handling to get your dog through the course. Remember the fun of field day as a kid? Now you can do it with your dog! Turn your training practice into a game-literally! This 4 week class gives you the opportunity to refine your dog's obedience, work on skills with distractions and have fun while doing both. We'll play games like musical chairs, simon says, charades, races using commands and more. Skills you will practice include giving commands from a distance, rapid responses to commands and learning new tricks and behaviors. Participating dogs must be people and dog friendly. Class size limited to 6 dogs and if you have multiple dogs, you can rotate who you bring each week as long as their rabies is on file. Rally is a dog sport consisting of different obedience based stations that make up a course that you and your dog navigate together. Handlers and dogs learn the stations and then complete the course - there are different configurations and stations each week! This class will help refine your dog's obedience while having a blast! Take your dog's obedience even further! Now that they have great basic skills, let's take those commands and work towards doing them with a completely loose leash or even off leash. Learn how to keep their focus to achieve off leash heeling, different command sequences and with even more distractions! Class size limited to 6 dogs. Do you have a dog that reacts inappropriately to the world around them? Do they act like every person or dog needs "stranger danger" protocol by barking, growling, jumping or lunging at the sight of a dog or person? Do their reactions make it difficult to take them places? This five week course will help you identify your dog's reasons for their behaviors and teach you handling methods and solutions to help work through them to make your pup more comfortable, calm and confident.
