My path to a career in dog training began in 2020 after I adopted a one year old, black, Labrador Retriever mix, named Dakota. Once she settled into our home and entered the “teenage phase,” I became overwhelmed with some of her unwanted behaviors. Returning her to the rescue was not an option for me because we had already grown attached to each other. Therefore, my only choice was to completely immerse myself into the world of dog training. During my journey, I sympathized with other struggling dog owners, and I felt a strong desire to help them by sharing what I had learned. As a result, I decided to pursue a more formal education by enrolling in Woofs of Wisdom’s Trainer Academy. It provided me with the in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience needed to teach others, which led to my role as a professional dog trainer and my own training business in Downingtown called Direction for Dogs, LLC.
I encourage everyone to become lifelong learners with their dogs. After Dakota had an understanding of basic obedience and manners, I made sure to continue training with her. There is always room for improvement, and there are so many fun ways to learn and practice in the real world. For example, everything from pack walks to parkour will help to strengthen your bond, improve communication, and exercise your dog’s mind and body to live a happy and healthy life with you. I am proud to report that Dakota and I have earned four American Kennel Club titles thus far: Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Advanced CGC Community Canine, Trick Dog Novice and Trick Dog Intermediate. We are currently working on our next set of titles. My goal for dog owners is for them to live enjoyable lives with their pets, where the dogs are active members of the family and partake in all of the everyday adventures of life. Whether that means helping you find a dog that is a good match for you or working on behavior modification, I want to use my knowledge and experience to provide customized training so dogs and their owners can reach their full potential. Every dog is worth the effort that you put into them because what they will give you in return is immeasurable.
